‘SOMETHING’S BREWING’

TWO TRIBES X CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS.

... IDEATION
... PACKAGING
... ILLUSTRATION

Every year Central Saint Martins hold a competition to design a beer can label for a brand that comes in and sets a brief. In 2023 my design won the competition and became the Two Tribes X UAL Central Saint Martins beer can label designs. The three labels when stacked together depicted a cross-section of the university.

Each floor was assigned a colour gradient so that when all the cans were presented together, the set would exuded a plethora of bright colour, reflecting a burst of creativity within the building and each individual student. I ensured to carry recognisable details from around the building in my designs, such as the unique signage systems and seperate studio spaces.

The Idea sketches

I fairly quickly decided I wanted to create a cut out dollhouse effect of the CSM campus, sketching out how this would work across labelling with colour schemes and a series name.

Submitted Design for Judging

My design for judgement utilised two labels with three floors featured on each. The design won the competition, but I was asked to make a few adjustments, which included converting the designs to three labels with 2 floors shown on each, and the colours being brightened to be more vibrant. This was so more details could be added.

Finals

Flat Label Designs

The higher floor level’s include the third floor, which features the print studio space, and the university roof garden.

The middle floor level’s include the first floor’s iconic bridges that connect the floor spaces, and the second floor which includes the large textiles and materialisation space.

The lower floor level’s include the outside King’s Cross public fountain space/university entrance, and the ground floor which includes ‘The Street’, ‘Swap Shop’, ‘Student Cafe’, as well as a hint of ‘The Platform Bar’.

P.O.S. design

As the labels were such a success, I was employed by the Student Bar team to translate the designs to be compatible for decorative panels for the front of the Central Saint Martins’ Platform Bar. I transformed the original designs to a DPI that was achievable with the increased scale. The P.O.S. design is currently being used at the university.
