... USER EXPERIENCE LED DESIGN
I like making routed in my experiences, and at the time of this project I was struggling with issues with my flatmates kitchen standards.
This project was a satirical humourous approach to exploring the difficulties of living independently with flatmates for the first time as a student in the context of sharing a kitchen. I created a guide booklet that could be a tool for organising and advice. Its aim was to be part of a welcome pack to student accomodation, attempting to be more eye-catching than what currently exists in the kits, with a bright colour palette and relatable humour that takes the seriousness out of ‘adulting’.
IDeation brainstorm Process
When brainstorming what ways to communicate topics aroud student kitchens, I looked to inspirations such as student cookbooks, organisational systems, food illustration and different humour styles surrounding the theme of food.
Publication Page Concept
I sketched up ideas for the contents of different pages and chapters as well as design aspects including the colour scheme and printing of the publication.
Illustration stylisation
After deciding a colour scheme I started illustrating images to be used for my different page concepts. I wanted a feeling of chaotic-ness to be reflected in these illustrations, linking to the things that can go a bit wrong in student kitchens.

The set booklet and Stickers
As well as the A5 guide, I created some stickers which could be used to label your items and organisational spaces in a way which was humourously passive aggressive, as no one likes their items being commendeared by someone else..
booklet example spreads
The booklet included sections on organising, playful recipes, recipe sharing and kitchen hacks. Each section was followed by an anonymous submitted kitchen story from a student.
