FEMINISM THROUGHOUT
TIME ARCHIVE.

... ILLUSTRATION
... PUBLICATION
... PHOTOSHOP

For this project I had to create three outcomes which showed a visual timeline of my choice. I selected the feminist movement as there were key eras I could utilise, as well as a rebellious aesthetic I was keen to look into.

I capitalised on the punk feminist movement reflecting the past, present ad future interpretations of this movement’s style. Rudimentary methods such as collage, scanning and illustration became techniques that were essential for this project, with the DIY element contributing to the narrative of the storytelling.

outcome to reflect the past

To resemble the DIY approach of punk rebellious design I used a rough Photoshop style to impose recognisable references of the feminist movement into a black and white riot photograph. I kept the references coloured and the photography black and white to allow them to stand out.

outcome to reflect the present

I constructed a list of terminology that my female friends and I have been called that could be classified as misogynistic. I then created a typography archive from letters torn out of womens magazines. Using my own illustrations and collected corresponding imagery, I designed an A5 zine which re-defined each term.

Using a similar visual language I designed a set of protest posters facing issues I still think will be present for women in a decades time. I invented a logo for a potential protest group named: ‘Our Voices’ and chose a colour palette that would create an eye-catching display when printed as Risographs.
