I haven’t disguised that I don’t particularly like A.I. during my university course, but for a project at the end of second year I was set a brief where part of the deliverables included having an outcome which utilised A.I.
For this project I created a playful game which could be used to train people on how to spot the ‘tell tale’ signs that a news story is fake/A.I. generated. In this current era of news, false information is easy to pass around with the ability to create realistic looking fake articles. Can we teach people methods to identify the reality in an engaging way and make them
more proactive in researching their news sources?
My fake news articles
I used Midjourney and ChatGPT to create news articles from concepts that I had completely imagined, and then printed them a A5 thick cards. I made an archive of imitation fonts of news and social media outlets to ensure the articles looked as realistic as possible. These articles were dispersed amongst real ones to construct a game play set. EXAMPLES
Creating a Character
I designed a character with charateristics that connected to the inhumanity of computational and coded data, linkingnto the theme of A.I. generation. This character would be used to depict and explain ways of spotting A.I. used in images and writing
Finals
the ‘Hefty Handbook to spotting a.i.’
The second part of the game involved a little ‘Hefty Handbook’ which had tips and tricks to spotting A.I. generation in imagery and text. A faceless illustrated character I created helped narrate the publication. In the final game and cards work in tandem with each other to attempt to sort the articles into ‘fact’ or ‘fake’.
